Muso
Lower under-five mortality through proactive care in Mali and Cote D’Ivoire
Muso works to create a cure for delay because no one should die waiting for health care.
Mali's under-five mortality rate is 11.5%, which is 16 times that of the United States, and pregnancy complications kill one in 27 women. The top killers are malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and neonatal causes: early access to healthcare can avert nearly all deaths of children under five.
Our partner
Muso’s model is made of three components:
- Proactively search for households with pregnant mothers
- Provide care in the home (i.e. family planning, pregnancy testing and treatment for children with malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition)
- Accompany children (and related adults) that require more complex care to expanded government-run health centers, where Muso builds infrastructure and trains staff
Studies found that Muso's intervention reduced the under-five mortality10-fold difference, ultimately reaching a rate of 7 per 1000, the same rate as the United States.
