The Citizens Foundation
Support Quality Education for the Least Privileged
Globally, 600 million children are either out-of-school or in school and not learning. The Citizens Foundation (TCF) offers a model for how education systems with similar challenges can achieve inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
TCF sustains schools through a diverse portfolio of funders which includes local, diaspora, corporate, and foundation philanthropy. It costs USD 10 to educate one child for one month. USD 120 supports a student for one year. University scholarships cost USD 6,000 on average for a four-year degree. Ninety percent of donations go directly to schools, including female faculty salaries, transportation for female faculty who come from neighboring communities, training, classroom materials, and field management. The remaining ten percent is spent on head office support and oversight, includig curriculum development and innovation, performance management of principals and teachers, testing, procurement and distribution of books and furniture, engineering and more.
